A . Patwari :
The word Patwari corresponds to a person in the local authority who maintains ownership records for a given area and collects land taxes. A phrase often used in North and Central India.
Patwari’s primary job is to measure the land and maintain land records. There are a various name for Patwari in different states. They are known as Lekhpal in some states, in others Karamchari, Kanungo or Village Officer.
Primary duties of Patwari
Each Patwari is responsible for a village group.
The Village records are kept and updated by the Patwari.
He is also responsible for coordinating farmers land revenue collection.
Patwari gives details about the crops grown in its region to the government.
B . Tehsildar :
A Tehsildar has to hear the disputes. He also supervises the work of the Patwari and ensures that records are properly kept and land revenue is collected. They make sure that the farmers can easily obtain a copy of their record, students can obtain their caste certificates etc.
