Answer:

1.because the molecules of matter are in constant random motion.

2.because the molecules of a solid are very closely packed and their intermolecular force of attraction is very strong and the intermolecular spaces are negligible. So the molecules are not free to move and vibrate in their mean position. In case of gases the intermolecular force of attraction is negligible and the intermolecular spaces are large. So molecules move about freely anywhere in space.Hence solids cannot be compressed, but gases are highly compressible.

1 ) Matter is composed of tiny particles ( atoms , molecules or ion ) . these particles are in constant, random motion and possess kinetic energy . the particles also have potential energy due to intermolecular attractions . The average kinetic energy increases as the temperature increases.

2) As we know that solids have very intermolecular spaces due to strong forces of attraction between the molecules while gases have large intermolecular spaces because of weaker forces of attraction so gases can be compressed easily.
