Required Answers:

A) As per the given information, Compound X is an antacid and contains sodium as its constituent. We know that, Baking soda which is chemically Sodium bicarbonate or Sodium hydrogen carbonate is used as an antacid. So,

  • Compound X = Sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3)

B) The decomposition of sodium bicarbonate gives rise to products like Sodium carbonate, Carbon dioxide and water. The reaction is:

  •  \boxed{\red{\sf{2NaHCO_3   \longrightarrow Na_2CO_3 + CO_2 + H_2O}}}

It is because Sodium bicarbonate is made from the sodium carbonate in the reverse process.

C) Other than as an antacid, the other uses includes:

  • For making baking powder which is the mixture of sodium bicarbonate and tartaric acid. As Carbon dioxide is released, it makes the the cakes and bread fluffy.

  • Used in soda-acid fire extinguishers.

And we are done !!
