Voices:

Voices refer to the sentence structure - the way a sentence is written. There are two types of voices:

⇒ Active voice

Active voice is the basic sentence structure used in sentences. In this type of sentences, the verb is expressed as done by the subject. The sentence structure is as follows:

Subject + Verb + Object.

Examples:

1) She is writing a letter.

Here, She is the subject who does the action, is writing is the verb and letter is the object.

2) They read books.

Here, they is the subject who does the action of reading and books is the object.

⇒ Passive voice

Passive voice is a much more complex type of sentence structure. In this type of sentences, the verb is expressed as received by the object. The sentence structure is as follows:

Object + Verb + Subject

Examples:

1) The newspaper is being read by him.

The active voice is : He is reading the newspaper where He is the subject, is reading is the verb and newspaper is the object. In the passive voice, it can be noticed that the object comes first followed by the action and the subject.

2) The towels are washed by us.

The active voice of the sentence is We wash the towels where We is the subject, wash is the verb and towels is the object. In the passive voice, it can be noticed that the object comes first followed by the action and the subject.
