Quantum number and explain in short all types of quantum number ?
Answers
Answer:
Quantum numbers are a set of values that describes the state of an electron including its distance from the nucleus, the orientation and type of orbital where it is likely to be found, and its spin. The Pauli exclusion principle states that no two electrons in an atom can have the same set of quantum numbers. The principle quantum number (n) is the number of the electron's shell. The angular momentum quantum number (l) is the type of orbital (s=0, p=1, etc). The magnetic quantum number (ml) is the orientation of the orbital (integers from –l to l, for p = -1, 0, 1). The spin projection quantum number (ms) is the spin of the electron (either -½ or ½).
Answer:-
Every electron in an atom can be uniquely identified by a set of four quantum numbers.
There are 4 types of Quantum Numbers:-
- Principal quantum number.
- Azimuthal quantum number.
- Magnetic quantum number.
- Spin quantum number.
_______________________
★ Principal quantum number:- It determines the shell of the electron. It also determines the energy of the shells as well as electrons.
★ Azimuthal quantum number:- It determines the sub shell as well as the orbital of the electron.
★ Magnetic quantum number:- It determines the number of orbitals present in the subshell
★ Spin quantum number:- It determines the number of orbitals present in a sub shell.
