Let the width be x.

then length be x+4

A/Q

l+b=36

x+(x+4)=36

2x+4=36

2x=36-4

2x=32

x=16.

Hence, The length of garden will be 20 m and width will be 16 m.

sakshamgiri027: you've messed it up bro
sakshamgiri027: this was a question of linear equations in 2 variables, even the assumption at the beginning is wrong
sakshamgiri027: sorry the assumption is right

let the length be 'x' m and breadth be 'y' m.

Now, A.T.Q.

x =  y+4

=>   x-y = 4      -----(i)

also,

36  = x+y     --------(ii)

now adding (i) and (ii)

2x  =  40

x    =  20 m

=> y   =  16 m

hope it helps.
