1) The poet is an adult when he composed this poem but the age to which he reflects and tries to seek answers to the loss of his childhood is when he was eleven years old.

2) The poet is caught in a mood of nostalgia and seeped in the loss incurred from the transition from childhood to adulthood which marks the loss of innocence and simplicity in life.

3) Childhood is associated with faith when we are told to accept what our elders tell us thus functioning almost along the lines of a religion. Whereas in adulthood, one is taught to interrogate, seek fresh avenues and constantly question received information. Hence, in that way it is a lot like science which demands rationality over simple faith.
