Answer :- Commutative property of addition .

Explanation :- Commutative property of addition says that,

  • a + b = b + a

comparing 7 + (-8) = (-8) + 7 with a + b = b + a we get,

  • a = 7
  • b = (-8)

so,

→ a + b = b + a

→ 7 + (-8) = (-8) + 7

→ 7 - 8 = -8 + 7

(-1) = (-1)

Extra knowledge :-

  • Commutative Property also satisfy for Multiplication . so, a * b = b * a .
  • Commutative Property does not satisfy for substraction and divisible .

Given:

Name the property used in : 7 + (-8) = (-8) + 7 ?

Solution:

7 + (-8) = (-8) + 7 => Commutative Property

  • When there is a change in the position of rational numbers but it doesn't affect the result then it is known as the commutative property
  • The Commutative Property is applicable only to Addition and Multiplication but not on Subtraction and Division.

given: 7 + (-8) = (-8) + 7

LHS:

=> 7+(-8)\\=> 7 - 8\\=> -1

RHS:

=> (-8) + 7\\=> -1\\

There is no change in the result when there is a change in the position of numbers.

Hence, it is commutative property.
