We have quadratic polynomial p(x) = x² - 6x + 8 & zero of the polynomial p(x) = 0

By using factorisation Method :

➦ x² - 6x + 8 = 0

➦ x² - 6x + 8 = 0

➦ x² - 4x - 2x + 8 = 0

➦ x(x - 4) - 2(x - 4) = 0

➦ (x - 4) (x - 2) = 0

➦ x - 4 = 0 Or x - 2 = 0

x = 4 Or x = 2

The α = 4 & β = 2 are the two zeroes of the given polynomial.

As we know that given quadratic polynomial Compared with ax² + bx + c:

  • a = 1
  • b = -6
  • c = 8

Now,

Sum of the zeroes :

➦ α + β = -b/a = [coefficient of x/coefficient of x²]

➦ α + β = -b/a

➦ 4 + 2 = -(-6)/1

➦ 6 = 6/1

6 = 6

Product of the zeroes :

➦ α × β = c/a = [constant term/coefficient of x²]

➦ 4 × 2 = 8/1

8 = 8

Thus,

The relationship between zeroes & coefficient are verified.
