EXPLANATION.

→ a and b are the roots of the equation

x² - x + 1 = 0

To find the value of a² + b².

→ sum of zeroes of quadratic equation.

a + b = -b/a

a + b = -(-1)/1 = 1 ...... (1)

→ products of zeroes of quadratic equation.

ab = c/a

ab = 1 ......(2)

→ from equation (1) and (2) we get,

→ ( a² + b² ) = ( a + b) ² - 2ab

→ ( a² + b² ) = ( 1 )² - 2(1)

→ ( a² + b² ) = 1 - 2

→ ( a² + b² ) = -1 → answer.

more information.

→ D > 0 → roots are real and unequal.

→ D = 0 → roots are real and equal.

→ D < 0 → roots are imaginary.
