biotic - A type of natural resource derived from the biosphere as opposed to abiotic resource from non-living things. Supplement. Examples of biotic resources are forests, animals.

Abiotic - Abiotic resources are resources that are nonliving. ... Human depletion of abiotic resources, such as water, soil, and minerals is a source of concern for humans, as these resources are not easily replenished and are being used above the rate that they can be naturally replaced.

Biotic components

The living components present in the environment constitutes the biotic component.

Example : trees , human beings , insects etc.

Abiotic Components

As the name suggests these components are non biotic means they are non living they constituted large part of the ecosystem.

Examples : soil, water , air etc.

The biotic and abiotic components interact with each other in the environment which is much essential for the proper and healthy functioning of the ecosystem.

The Consumers and producers of the ecosystem are the living species itself however the producers that is plants basically depend upon the abiotic sources like water , sunlight as well as air for the production of food to fulfill the need of consumers which includes animals and other carnivorous and omnivorous species. In this way both abiotic and biotic sources interact with each other and with mutual benefits they work together for healthy functioning of the ecosystem.

Biotic sources sources are basically classified into three types :

  • Producers
  • Consumers
  • Decomposers.

Example + Explaination

let us consider the pond ecosystem. Here the hydrophytes that is the plants found in water ( a biotic component) acts as a producer while other zooplanktons depend upon them for their survival. while other large fishes also depend upon the zooplanktons for their survival. Here without hydrophytes that marks the basis of pond ecosystem you cannot imagine the life there so biotic components are very important in the healthy functioning of ecosystem.
