→ Amount after 2 years = Rs. 720

→ Amount after 7 years = Rs. 1020

So,

→ Amount increased in 5 years = 1020 - 720 = Rs. 300

then,

→ Amount increased each year = 300/5 = Rs. 60

since simple interest is same in each year .

→ Amount increased in first 2 years = 60 * 2 = Rs. 120 = Simple interest for 2 years .

therefore,

→ Principal = Amount - Simple interst = 720 - 120 = Rs. 600 (Ans.)

Hence, the sum is Rs. 600 .
