1. The narrator goes to  46, Marconi Street to visit Mrs. Dorling who had taken her mother's valuable possessions during the war cunningly, saying that she would keep them safe. Since the narrator lost her mother, she wanted to have those belongings of her mother as her remembrance. To her surprise, Mrs. Dorling refuses to even recognize her. Again she goes to that address and as Mrs. Dorling was not at home, she could see how her mother's silver and other things were being used and ill-kept by the family. She was disappointed beyond words and returned without any thing with her.

2. The two reason did narrator give to explain that she was mistaken :

a) she had seen mrs dorling only once and that was years ago .

b) second reasons was that she felt that she had rung the wrong bell.
