(a) The sum of four times a number and 5 gives a number five times of it.

ANSWER :-

Let the unknown number be 'x'.

We know that sum of 4 times of x and 5 is 5 times of x.

We will make an equation.

→ 4x + 5 = 5x

Now we will transpose 5 to R.H.S [sign changes from (+) to (-) ] and 5x to L.H.S [ sign changes from (-) to (+) ]

→ 4x - 5x = - 5

→ - x = - 5

x = 5

Hence , the number is 5.

(b) One-fourth of a number is 2 more than 5.

ANSWER :-

Let the unknown number be 'y'.

so, 1/4 of y is 2 more than 5.

→ (1/4) × y = 5 + 2

→ y/4 = 7

We will transpose 4 to RHS . As 4 is in division form , it will be in multiplication form in RHS.

→ y = 7 × 4

y = 28

Hence , the unknown number is 28.
