Carbon monoxide ( CO ) reacts with haemoglobin and form a stable compound Carboxyhaemoglobin. Carboxyhaemoglobin is 300 times more stable than oxyhaemoglobin, Formation of Carboxyhaemoglobin reduces the Oxygen carrying capacity of the blood, as a result of this suffocation takes place. low level poisoning results in headache and drowsiness , high level poisoning may cause death.

Explanation:

the poisonous nature ot carbon monoxide co is due to its ability to form a complex with haemoglobin which is about 300 times more stable than the oxygen haemoglobin complex. this prevent haemoglobin ( in the RBC ) from carrying oxygen in the body and ultimately resulting in death.
