Hydration energy can be calculated using the Born-Lande equation.

  • Born lande equation is used for calculating the lattice energy of ionic compounds such as KCl, NaCl etc.
  • The formula for finding lattice energy is
  • \frac{na \: m \: z + z - a \: {e}^{2} }{4\pi \: eo{r}^{2}} \times (1 - \frac{1}{n} )
  • Here, Avogadro's constant, z+ and z- cationic and anionic charge, eo is the permittivity of free space, r is the radius, n is born exponent and a is Madelung constant.
  • Latimer equation describes the Gibbs free energy change.
  • Arrhenius equation is the relationship between temperature and rate constant.
  • Einstein's equation gives the mass and energy relation which is E = mc².
