Given - total number of heads = 200

total number of legs in farm = 540

To Find - the number of hens in the farm

Solution -

Let the number of hens = x

let number of cows = y

according to question

x + y = 200 …..(i)

we know each hen has 2 legs and each cow has 4 legs so

2x + 4y =540 ….(ii)

solving equation (i) and (ii)

multiply (i) by 4

4x + 4y = 800 …..(iii)

subtract (ii) from (iii)

2x = 260

x = 130

putting x in equation (i)

y = 70

the farm has 130 chickens and 70cows
