Question 16:
(a) What is meant by the “resistance of a conductor” ? Write the relation between resistance, potential
difference and current.
(b) When a 12 V battery is connected across an unknown resistor, there is a current of 2.5 mA in the circuit. Calculate the value of the resistance of the resistor.

1)
The property of the conductor by virtue of which it opposed the flow of current through it is known as 'resistance of the conductor'.
From ohm's law,
The relationship between Potential different V current I, and resistance R, is given by
(current flowing through the conductor is directly proportional to the potential different across the conductor, provided that the physical conditions remain constant or unchanged.)
V=IR..................1)
2)let the resistant of the conductor =R
potential different V=12V
current I=2.5mA=2.5x10-³ A
using the formula as shown in equation 1)
V=IR
R=V/I
R=12/2.5x10-³
R=4.8x10³
R=4800ohm.
