Let equation of line is
x/a + y/b = 1-----(1)

a/c to question,
Point R(h,k) divides the line AB in the ratio 1:2.

use section formula,
[p(x, y) = {(mx2 + nx1)/(m+n),(my2+ny1)/(m+n)} ]

Here, (x1, y1) = (a,0)
(x2, y2) = (0, b)
and m :n = 1: 2

Now,
R(h,k) = {(1×0+2×a)/(1+2),(1×b+2×0)/(1+2)}
= {2a/3, b/3 }

hence , h = 2a/3 => a = 3h/2
k =b/3 => b = 3k

Put a and b values in place of a and b, in equation (1),

x/(3h/2) + y/(3k) = 1
2x/3h + y/3k = 1
2kx + hy = 3hk
