Given :- (from image) .

  • AB = DC = 85m.
  • radius of both semi - circle = 36.6m.

To Find :-

  • How long is the running track . ?

Solution :-

from image we can see that,

→ Length of running track = AB + circumference of semi - circle with radius 36.6m + CD + circumference of semi - circle with radius 36.6m .

Or,

Length of running track = AB + CD + (circumference of semi - circle with radius 36.6m + circumference of semi - circle with radius 36.6m)

Or,

Length of running track = 2AB + circumference of one circle with radius 36.6 m .

we know that,

  • circumference of a circle with radius r is = 2 * π * r
  • π = 3.14 .

Putting all values now, we get,

→ Length of running track = 2*85 + (2 * 3.14 * 36.6)

→ Length of running track = 170 + 3.14 * 73.2

→ Length of running track = 170 + 229.8

→ Length of running track = 399.8 ≈ 400m. (Ans.)

Hence, Length of running track is 400m.
