They are all basically just accelerations, with the difference of directions. If the acceleration is along the direction of motion, it is calledacceleration.

If the acceleration is opposite to the direction of motion, it is called deceleration/retardation.

Usually measured in SI Unit: metre/sec/sec which is m/sec^2
