Question 20: Shubhi saw a beautiful ring which was made of Electrum. Electrum is an alloy
of gold and silver with a small amount of other metals and is white in colour.
The ratio of gold and silver in a sample of electrum is 9:7.If the weight of the silver in that
sample of alloy is 9.8 kg. Then, what is the weight of the gold in the alloy?
Answers
Answer:
5.5 kg of gold
Explanation:
4.3 kg of silver
Given:
Shubhi saw a beautiful ring which was made of Electrum.
Electrum is an alloy of gold and silver with a small amount of other metals and is white in colour.
The ratio of gold and silver in a sample of electrum is 9:7.
If the weight of the silver in that sample of the alloy is 9.8 kg
To find:
What is the weight of the gold in the alloy?
Solution:
Since the ratio gold and silver in the sample of the alloy is 9:7, so, let's assume,
"9x" → the weight of gold in the sample of the alloy
"7x" → the weight of silver in the sample of the alloy
The weight of silver in the alloy = 9.8 kg
We get an equation as,
7x = 9.8
⇒ x =
⇒ x = 1.4
∴ The weight of the gold in the alloy = 9x = 9 × 1.4 = 12.6 kg
Thus, the weight of the gold in the sample of electrum is → 12.6 kg.
