Question 22
A 100 kg wagon is pulled along a horizontal surface by applying a 60 N force at 60° above the
horizontal. If the wagon moves 20. m by how much has its kinetic energy increased? Give your answer
in joules, without a unit and to an appropriate number of significant figures. You may assume frietional
forces are negligible

Answer:

600 J

Explanation:

m = 100 kg

F = 60 N

angle = 60°

s = 20 m

K.E = Force applied horizontally x displacement

Force applied horizontally can be calculated using cos 60°

Cos60° = adj side / diagonal = F1 / F

F1 = F cos60° = F/2

K.E = Force applied horizontally x displacement

K.E = F1 X displacement

K.E = F/2 * displacement

K.E = 60/2 *20 = 600 J
