The distance between two nearest  neighbours is maximum in:

(1) Simple Cubic Arrangement

- The distance between two neighbour atoms in the distance between their centres.

- In simple cubic lattice, atoms are present only at corners.

- So, the distance between their centres is the edge length 'a' which is the maximum.

- In BCC, one atom is present at the body centre.

- So, the distance between two neighbouring centres is half of the body diagonal, i.e. '√3a/2'.

- In FCC, atoms are also present at the face centres.

- So, the distance between two neighbouring centres is half of the face diagonal, i.e. 'a/√2'.
