"(a) ‘Fission’ in biology refers to the division of a mother cell into two or more daughter cells. If the division is into two daughter cells, it is called binary fission and if it is into a greater number of daughter cells, it is called multiple fission.(b)

BINARY FISSION                   MULTIPLE FISSION

The mother cell divides into two daughter cells in binary fission.                     The mother cell divides into more than two daughter cells in multiple fission.

It generally occurs under favourable conditions.        It generally occurs under unfavourable conditions.
