1)Aurangzeb banned the playing of the pungi because it made a shrill and unpleasant sound.

2) The pungi with its belly like part makes a shrill and unpleasant sound But a shehnai is made of a natural hollow stem that is longer and broader than a pungo.its make melodious sound.

3) Traditionally shehnai was played in temples and weddings . Bismillah khan gave the shehnai a new dimension by adding raagas to its melody

4) Bismillah khan got a break when the all Indian radio opened its station in Lucknow in 1938. He became the shehnai player there from the opening of the centre.

5) On 15 August , 1947 Ustad Bismillah Khan greeted nation with his Shehnai from the Red Fort .He poured out heart in raag kafi.
The Event was historic because it was India's first day of independence.

6) Bismillah khan refused to start a shehnai school in USA because he wouldn't find the home environment there.There was no ganga there .He could not live holy river Ganga.

7) Bismilah khan refused to stay in USA saying that there was no Ganga there. He loved India and Benaras on the bank of the Ganga .He said that when he was in a foreign land he kept thinking for India and when he was in Mumbai he kept thinking for Banaras and the Ganga.
