Question 3 Check whether the following pair of statements is negation of each other. Give reasons for the answer.

(i) x + y = y + x is true for every real numbers x and y.

(ii) There exists real number x and y for which x + y = y + x.

negation of the statement : if word ' not ' is not given in the statement , then insert word ' not ' in the statement. if word 'not ' is given in the statement then remove word 'not ' from the statement .

negation of the statement : there exists numbers x and y such that x + y = y + x is not true. but the second statement, ' There exists real number x and y for which x + y = y + x' both are not same . hence, (i) and (ii) are not negation of each other .
