GivEn:

  • Radius of smaller circle = 4 cm
  • Radius of bigger circle = 5 cm

To find:

  • Length of each chord of one circle which is tangent to the other circle?

Solution:

It forms a right angle triangle,

Using Pythagoras Theorem,

H² = B² + P²

➯ (5)² = B² + (4)²

➯ 25 = B² + 16

➯ B² = 25 - 16

➯ B² = 9

➯ √B² = √9

➯ B = 3 cm

Therefore, Length of chord is,

➯ 2 × Base = 2 × 3

6 cm

Hence, Length of chord is 6 cm.
