Step-by-step explanation:

If we use area of triangle=0 then three points are collinear but if the area is not equal to zero then it is not collinear.

It is common sense that if 3 points are collinear then it will not form triangle but if they are not collinear a triangle will be formed.

If you want to go by the lengthy method then by distance formula where you need to find distance of 3 points which makes it very complicated. Go ahead if you are comfortable with the distance formula.

My advice is to use area of triangle as you can prove in 3-4 steps instead of 10-12 steps...
