4x + 2y = 12.....(i)

x − y = 3......(ii)

Multiply equation(ii) by 2,

2x-2y=6......(iii)

Adding equations (i) and (iii),

4x + 2y + 2x - 2y= 12+6

or, 6x = 18

or, x=18/6=3

So, your answer is option(c)
