Given : . Anand goes to a shop to buy the walkman costing Rs.2250. The rate of sales tax is  6% he wants the dealer to reduce the price so that he has to pay Rs.2000 inclusive  of tax.

To : Find the reduction needed in the percent of the walkman

Solution:

cost  $2,250  ( with out tax )

Price after deduction = P

Sales tax = 6 %

Price to be paid = P + (6/100)P

= 1.06P

1.06P = 2000

=> P =  1,886.8   $

Deduction =  2,250 - 1886.8  = 363.2 $

Deduction in %  = ( 363.2 / 2250) * 100  = 16.1 %

approximate reduction needed in the cost price of the  Walkman (in percentage). =  16.1 %

Approx 16 %

Another way

Amount with tax = 2250 + (6/100)2250 = 2385

Discount = 2385 - 2000 = 385

Discount % = (385 / 2385 ) * 100 = 16.1 %

Approx 16 %
