Question 4.A verandah of width 2.25 m is constructed all along outside a room which is 5.5 m long and 4 m wide. Find:

(i) the area of the verandah.

Length of veranda and room altogether = 5.5 + 2.25 + 2.25 = 10m

Breadth of veranda and room altogether = 4 + 2.25 + 2.25 = 8.5m

Area of veranda and room altogether = L × B = 10 × 8.5 = 85 sq.m

Area of the room = L × B = 5.5 × 4 = 22 sq.m

Area of the veranda

= Area of veranda and room altogether - Area of the room

= 85 - 22

= 63 sq.m

=10×8.5-5.5×4
=85-22
=63
