Test cross
In this an organism showing a dominant phenotype is crossed with the recessive parent instead of self crossing. The progeny of such a cross can easily be analysed to predict the genotype of the test organism.
If the test organism will be a homozygous dominant then all the results of the test cross will be dominant organism
If the half of the progeny are dominant and half are recessive then test results show that the test organism was heterozygous dominant.
Hope this helps.
