Given:

You plan to tile your verandah, which measures 9 metres by 7 metres.

The tiles that you are going to use  measure 25 cm by 25 cm each

No breakages are foreseen

To find:

How many tiles will you need?

Solution:

The dimensions of the verandah floor:

Length = 9 m

Breadth = 7 m

∴ Area of the floor of Verandah = length × breadth = 9 × 7 = 63 m²

The dimensions of each tile:

Side = 25 cm = 0.25 m

∴ Area of the each tile = side² = 0.25² = 0.0625 m²

Now,

The required no. of tiles are given by,

= \frac{Area \:of \:the \:floor\:of\:verandah}{Area \:of \:each\:tile}

= \frac{63\:m^2}{0.0625\:m^2}

= \bold{1008}

Thus, I will need 1008 tiles to cover the entire floor of the verandah.
