The troops (soldiers) equipped to be dropped by parachutes from an aircraft are called paratroopers. Why do paratroopers roll on landing ?

If paratroopers do not roll on landing, there will be a huge change in momentum f their body in a very short time. As a result of this a very high force will act on their leg resulting in breaking of legs and other severe injuries. They roll in order to reduce the impact on their legs.
