Answer:

a)

(i) According to Snell's law nv is constant for all the constituents of a single wave passing through a particular medium, here the seven wavelengths of white light. Since velocity v of red light through a medium is maximum, refractive index n for red light will be least.

b) First the angle of deviation produced by prism decreases with the increasing angle of incidence but on further increasing the angle of incidence the angle of deviation increases. Figure given in side shows the graph for variation of angle of deviation with the angle of incidence.

c) Answer

Nature of the material of the medium.

Density of the medium.

Colour of the light.

Wavelength of the light.

Hope it helps!!

Answer:

Explanation:

a)

(i)Red light has the maximum wavelength λ and frequency f of light doesn't change in any medium. Thus, red light travels fastest through a medium since v=frequency x wavelength

According to Snell's law  is constant for all the constituents of a single wave passing through a particular medium, here the seven wavelengths of white light. Since velocity v of red light through a medium is maximum, refractive index n for red light will be least.

c)

1) Speed of light in the medium (Higher the speed of light, lower is the refractive index)

2) Temperature of the medium(When the temperature of medium increases, the speed of light in the medium increases and hence the refractive index decreases).

3) Colour or Wavelength of light(Greater is the wavelength of light in the given medium, its refractive index will be less. Hence refractive index is least for red light with greatest wavelength and greatest for violet light with greatest wavelength)

4) Optical density of the medium (Denser the medium, the speed of light in the medium will be less and hence the refractive index will be more
