Question 7.4: A 60 μF capacitor is connected to a 110 V, 60 Hz ac supply. Determine the rms value of the current in the circuit.

Capacitance ( c ) = 60 цF = 60 * 10⁻⁶ F


Voltage ( v ) = 110 V


Frequency ( f ) = 60 Hz


Angular Frequency ( w ) = 2π * f = 2πf


Capacitive Reactance ( xc ) = 1 / wc


=> 1 / 2πf * c


=> 1 / 2π * 60 * 60 * 10⁻⁶


=> 1 / 2π * 36 * 10⁻⁴


RMS value of current :


I = v / xc


=> 220 / 2π * 36 * 10⁻⁴


=> 2.49 A


Thus RMS value of current is 2.49 A.
