Answers
a) Taxation of Doab:
To overcome the financial problems in the empire, Muhammad bin Tughlaq increased the taxes in Ganga - Yamuna Doab region. About 50% of land produce was increased. But in this period the farmers faced crop failure due to famines and drought. The taxes were forcefully collected by officials. Sultan realized his mistake and adopted relief measures.
b) Source of Revenue:
The main source of revenue during the Delhi Sultans was land revenue. The taxes were collected from the farmers based on the measurement of land. Other taxes were also collected from people. Jijiya tax was collected from non-muslims. Jijiya was even collected from Brahmins. Kharaj was main tax which is a tax collected from cultivated land. Zakat was collected from Muslims on the property and land.
C) Features of Qutub Minar:
❏ The foundation for the construction of Qutub Minar was laid by Qutub - ud - din Aibak and was completed by Iltutmish.
❏ Qutub Minar is the highest minaret in India and was dedicated to Sufi saint, Qutubuddin Bakhtiyar Khilji.
❏ Qutub Minar was constructed with red sandstone with the height of 72.5 m.
❏ Qubub Minar was mainly used to give call for prayers [ Muazzin ].
❏ All the storeys of Qutub Minar are surrounded by balcony encircling the Minar.
❏ The balconies are decorated with honey-comb design.

a) Taxation of Doab .
The Sultan wanted to raise a strong army for conquests.
The people of Doab were rich and were in a position to pay the increased taxes. The officers engaged in the duty of tax collection could not try to understand the situation and went on collecting the taxes.
The tax collectors however showed no signs of mercy and ruthlessly collected taxes.

b) Sources of Revenue.
The three main sources of federal tax revenue are individual income taxes, payroll taxes, and corporate income taxes. Other sources of tax revenue include excise taxes, the estate tax, and other taxes and fees.

c) Features of Qutub Minar.
The Qutub Minar had four storeys and stood at an impressive height of 71.4 meters. However, it was damaged by lightening in the year 1369. In the course of the repairs, Feroz Shah Tughluq further raised its height.
It has five storeys tapering as they ascend. Each storey is separated from the other by a projecting balcony.
Verses from the Holy Quran and some complex carvings and floral motifs are inscribed on the walls of the tower.
