Answer 9:

The tree was silent before the goldfinch came. It became silent again after she left.

Answer 10:

The poem is about the laburnum tree which is still and silent and losing its leaves. It bursts into life when a goldfinch comes to feed her chicks. After her departure, the tree becomes empty and silent again. The life and energy that the bird brings to the tree is its most attractive feature of the poem.

9. The first line of the poem is, "The laburnum top is silent, and the' last line is, "And the laburnum subsides to empty". The entire activity of goldfinch is responsible for the laburnum tree to become vibrant. Goldfinch is not there in the end, leaving laburnum silent, just the way it was in the beginning.

10. I like the simplicity and pictorial presentation of the poem. The comparison between bird's movement woth machine and Lizard made it in a nice way. Also chirruping and trilling of goldfinch.
