Question :- A beaker of circular cross section radius 4cm is filled with mercury up to a height of 10cm. find the force exerted by the mercury on the bottom of the beaker . the atmospheric pressure = 10^5Nm-² . Density mercury = 13600kgm-³ . ​

The pressure at the surface :

= atmospheric pressure

= 10⁵ N/m² .

The pressure at the bottom :

= 10⁵ N/m² + hρg

= 10⁵ + (0.1)(13600)(10)

= 10⁵ + 13600

= 113600

= 1.136 * 10⁵ N/m²

Thus,

The force exerted by the mercury on the bottom:

= (1.136 * 10⁵ ) * (3.14 * 0.04 * 0.04 )

= 571 N
