QUESTION :
A body of mass M moving with velocity V makes a head on elastic collision with another body of mass 2M which is initially at rest. The ratio of kinetic energies of colliding body before and after collision will be?

Answer:

KE of colliding bodies before collision =1/2mv^2

after collision the mass = m+2m=3m

velocity become v^1=(m1-m2/m1+m2) v

=m/3m ×v

=v/3

KE after collision =1/2m(v/3) ^2

=1/9×1/2 mv^2

KE before/KE after=1/2mv^2/1/9×1/2mv^2

=9:1
