Question:- A boy brings the palm of his hand near the disc of a charged gold leaf electroscope. The leaves of the
electroscope are observed to collapse slightly. But when the boy moves his hand away from the gold leaf
electroscope, the leaves resume their original position. How do you explain the behavior of the leaves?​

The palm of the hand has the charge of the Other leaf of the gold leaf electroscope

Explanation:

  • When there is  the palm there is induction of the charge ,as a result of this there is attraction of the the two leave due to which it falls over Each Other since top however when the boy moves his hand away from the gold leaf electroscope then the charge again vanishes resulting in repulsion and divergence of the two leaves of the gold leaf electroscope. this is because similar charges repel and opposite charges attract
