Question:-

A car moving with constant acceleration covers the distance between two points 180 m apart in 6 sec. Its speed as it passes the second point is 45 m/s. Its acceleration ?

Answer:-

Let the acceleration be a

and the initial velocity be u

In 1st part :-

s = ut + (1/2)at²

=> 180 = u(6) + (1/2)a(6)²

=> 180 = 6u + 18a

=> 30 = u + 3a ------- (i)

Also, in the second part :-

v = u + at

=> 45 = u + a(6)

=> 45 = u + 6a --------- (ii)

(ii) - (i) :-

45 - 30 = (u + 6a) - (u + 3a)

=> 15 = 3a

=> a = 5m/

Ans. Acceleration = 5 m/ => Option (d)
