Question :-

A cork piece weighs 12.5 g. Initial volume of water in a measuring cylinder was
24 cm³. When a glass sinker was immersed
in water, the volume of water and sinker was found to be 56 cm³ When cork piece was tied to the sinker and both of
them were immersed in water, the volume reading in the measuring cylinder was 88 cm ³. Calculate the density of cork piece
in SI units.

Answer:

Given:-

  • Weight of cork piece = 12.5g
  • Volume of water in cylinder = 24cm³
  • Volume of water & Sinker = 56cn³
  • Volume in measuring cylinder = 88cm³
  • Volume of cork piece = 88 - 56 = 32cm³

Find:-

  • Density of cork piece?

Solution:-

  • { \boxed{ \sf{Density =  \frac{Mass}{Volume} }}}

 \to{ \sf{Density =  \frac{12.5}{32} }} \\  \\  \to{ \sf{Density =  \frac{125}{10}  \times  \frac{1}{32} }} \\  \\  \to{ \sf{Density = 0.390 \: g/ {cm}^{3} }}

  • SI unit of Density is kg/

 \to{ \sf{ \frac{0.390 \times 1 00 \times 1 00 \times 100  }{1 000 }kg / {m}^{3 } }} \\  \\ { \to{ \sf{ \frac{390000}{1000} kg / {m}^{3 }}}} \\  \\  \to{ \sf{390kg / {m}^{3 }}}

{ \therefore { \underline{ \sf{ \blue{Density  \: of  \: cork \:  piece = 390 kg/m³</p><p>}}}}}
