Portland cement, lime, and bio-cement are self-healing materials used to enhance the durability of the building structures.

Portland cement:-

• Has calcium hydroxide in them.
• When it is mixed with water, the bicarbonates in water react with it.
• This produces calcium carbonate crystals which induce self-healing.

Lime:-

• Mainly comprises calcium along with other minerals.
• Whenever micro-cracks form in a building, moisture activates the free lime and,
• It precipitates to heal the cracks.

Bio-cement:-

• Has limestone-producing bacterias in them.
• They are the healing agent in this cement.
• This bacteria also prevents internal corrosion using oxygen.
