Question:-

A teacher is 18 years elder to her student. 3 years ago one-tenth of the teacher's age was equal to one-fourth of the student's age. Find their present ages.

Given:-

  • A teacher is 18 years elder to her student.

  • 3 years ago one-tenth of the teacher's age was equal to one-fourth of the student's age.

To Find:-

  • Their present ages.

Solution:-

Let, student age is x.

So, teacher age = x + 3.

According to question:

 \sf \large \frac{1}{10} (x + 18 - 3) =  \frac{1}{4} (x - 3)

\sf \large⇒ \frac{x + 15}{10}  =  \frac{x  - 3}{4}

\sf \large⇒ \frac{x + 15}{10}  =  \frac{x - 3}{4}

 \sf \large⇒10(x - 3) = 4(x + 15)

 \sf \large⇒10x - 30 = 4x + 60

 \sf \large⇒10x - 4x = 60 + 30

 \sf \large⇒6x = 90

 \sf \large⇒x = {{ \cancel{ \frac{90}{6} }}} = 15

  • Teacher's age is 15 + 18 = 32.

  • Student age is 15.

Answer:-

{ \boxed{ \sf \large \green{ \therefore \: Teacher's age = 32. \: and}}} \\ { \boxed{ \sf \large \red{ \therefore Student  \: age  =  15.}}}

Hope you have satisfied.
