Solution :-
Let the distance be 'x' km from that place, which is asked in the question.
Murphy can row at the rate of 5 km/hr.
Rate downstream = 5 + 1 = 6 km/hr.
Rate upstream = 5 - 1 = 4 km/hr.
Then,
Distance/Speed = Time
x/6 + x/4 = 1 (As it takes him 1 hour to row to a place and come back)
Taking the L.C.M. of the denominator and then solving it.
⇒ (2x + 3x)/12 = 1
⇒ 5x = 12*1
5x = 12
x = 12/5
x = 2.4 km
So, that place is 2.4 km far.
