Duplet rule states that when an element gets 2 electrons in its valence or last shell it has achieved a stable electronic configuration . Hydrogen seems to be the only element obeying it. octet rule states that when an element acquires 8 electrons in the valence shell it becomes stable like the noble gases . almost all elements except h2 obey this during chemical reactions or when they become ions.
