Difference between VBT & Lewis concept :

✍️ According to Lewis concept, a covalent bond is formed by mutual sharing of electrons whereas according to Valence Bond theory a covalent bond is formed by the overlap of half-filled atomic orbitals containing electrons with opposite spin.

✍️ Valence Bond theory can explain the shapes of molecules whereas Lewis concept cannot.

✍️ Valence Bond theory can explain the strength of bonds whereas Lewis concept cannot.

Answer: Pure orbitals are involved in Lewis theory of chemical bonding that is there is no concept of hybridisation. ... The Valence Bond theory on the other hand considers that covalent bonds are formed by the overlap of orbitals, where the electrons get paired and are confined between the nuclei of two atoms.
