Ratio of velocities is 2:1

Explanation:

Given, mass of first body = m

mass of second body = 4 m

let, velocity if first body = v₁

velocity of second body = v₂

Kinetic energy of first body = Kinetic energy of second body

  • Kinetic energy of any body is the energy possessed by the virtue of motion contained in the body.It can also be defined as the amount of energy required to change the position of body. Its SI unit is joule and is given by following expression

                         Kinetic Energy = \frac{1}{2} m v²

=> Kinetic energy of first body = \frac{1}{2} m v₁²   .................(1)

=> Kinetic energy of second body = \frac{1}{2} (4 m) v₂²    .................(2)

From equation (1) and (2) we get

=> \frac{1}{2} m v₁² = \frac{1}{2} (4 m) v₂²

=> m v₁² = (4 m) v₂²

=> \frac{v_{1}^{2}  }{v_{2}^{2}  } =\frac{4}{1}

=> \frac{v_{1} }{v_{2} } =\frac{2}{1}

Ratio of velocities is 2:1
